Welcome to Sped Advisors
My name is Ginger Pillitteri and I am a Dr. of Special Education. More importantly, I have been working with learners with special needs and their families for over 20 years. Additionally, I teach master level classes at a large University in Virginia which allows me to impact the special needs teachers of tomorrow.
I bet you’re wondering what is SPED advisors and what does this totally free platform means to the special needs community?
1st, we are not disability specific. This site is intended to encompass all disabilities from birth to transition through old age.
One of the most common questions that I have been asked over the last two decades is do I know where to find a reputable ABA therapist, or a dentist to work with my child with special needs or even curriculum for homeschool learners, and many more questions similar to these.
Sure you can do your own research for a therapist, a barber or someone to help you develop a special needs trust.
But how do you know how they compare to others in their profession until you take the plunge and use their services? I bet right now you are thinking of some of the choices you’ve made in health care providers, or other professionals for your family member, or even that one you wish you found sooner.
****To be honest, I don’t know who is the best for you but I know who does. This is the backbone of this free tool. With your help, we are compiling this knowledge of those that have already done this legwork and those that have reviewed these professionals and make this information available to you so you can make the most informed decision for your family member. I know one of your most precious commodities is your time. We are trying to give this back to you. And strengthen this community.
We do this in 1 of 6 ways.
– First, your voice is highly important to us, we need to hear from you. Do you like your service provider, do you recommend them to another, what did you like or not like about them? Let us know so others can choose them or not.
– Second, it provides a comprehensive list of service providers that are sped specific. You can search by geography or highest rated or professional specific as well as other criteria that you can personalize to your own search needs. You will know the ones that are SPED specific because they will have a verified sped icon on their listings
– Third, we provide a market place, in which you can buy, sell, or donate merchandise.
(what that means is you can buy merchandise directly from a seller on the site, you can sell or donate items that are new or gently used to others on the site as well). If you have a weighted blanket that you no longer can use, don’t throw it out. you can put right on the site and sell or give it away to another sped family in this community.
And of course, SPED advisors does not take any revenue from these transactions. We take Nothing and we charge nothing for this service.
-Fourth, we have a recipe hot button that has a searchable list based on your dietary preferences. There are 28 preferences for you to choose from when you are searching for a recipe. For instance, are you looking for something that is sugar-free, soy-free, egg-free, dairy-free, grain-free or casein-free?. These are just a few, check them out and don’t forget to add your go-to recipes so others can enjoy.
-Fifth, we have a forum that enables you to talk securely to other members of this community. Feel free to start your own conversation. Ask questions to other members in this community and actually get answers. Can you tell me about autism recovery? Ask it and a member of the community that has been there before will answer you.
The last way that sped advisors will benefit you is our blog. We bring in experts from different professions that will highlight different topics that are some of the most commonly asked questions. Special needs trusts, reading interventions, sensory sensitivities, behavior assessments, and so forth.
