While you’re sleeping these little critters are out to lunch. Mattress bugs have been making a huge comeback, and home infestations of Cimex lectularius are being reported in rising numbers. As annoying as these blood suckers are, they do not spread disease. Their comeback is due partially to their resistance to a few of the insecticides that we throw at them. Research groups are now actively finding out the bed bug genome to learn how to break down mattress bug defences.
Triatomines are the blood-sucking bugs that harbor Trypanosama cruzi the human parasite that causes Chagas illness.
